Heartbeat!!!

Hey All!

Sorry for not posting last week... there wasn't really much to report. This last Friday (2/16) we went to Dr. Ellis' office for our monthly appointment. It was time to hear the baby's heartbeat. We also got the results of Courtney's blood work back as well. You can all breathe a sigh of relief, Courtney does not have any STDs, anemia, or AIDS... whew, I know I was worried! :-)

Anyway, the doctor got out his "Doppler" or heart beat finder thing and started to probe around. After about 5 minutes or so of strained looks (think constipation) he finally said... "Ah, there it is" and we were able to hear a quickly beating heart. He said that the reason that it took so long to find was due to the fact that the baby's heart was beating in time with Courtney's, only three times faster. So the baby and Courtney's hearts beat on cue and then the baby would have two more beats before Courtney's next. The doctor said that he wasn't sure if that was the baby's heart beat or if it was Courtney's heart beat reverberating off his equipment.

The cool thing about this is that there is basically no chance of a miscarriage from this point on. Courtney will be entering the 2nd trimester on Saturday (2/24) and complications are rare past this point. Courtney has been "alright" (as she says) lately but we all know what that means. Nausea, headaches, and heartburn have become a way of life... as has her complaining (just don't tell her I said that!!!) Hahaha!

I have been going through "sympathy" pregnancy meaning that I feel like a fat cow because I feel empowered to eat every time Courtney eats (which is like every hour) and so this pregnancy is doing in my workout routine and "diet" if you can call it that. I blame it all on Courtney!

Check out the pictures from the past two weeks.

Pic one is at 11 weeks, two days... pic two is at 12 weeks, two days.

Cheers and we'll be updating soon!!

PS. Check out the new "Anberlin" album... it rocks!

Week 10, Day 2...The First of Many

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls... welcome to The Carter Creation! This website is dedicated to telling the story of our first baby. We want to chart the progress, as best as possible, of Courtney's pregnancy through both words and images.

As this is the first post and we are already 10 weeks, 2 days into the pregnancy, we've got some catching up to do.

The story starts on January 4th when we found out. Courtney had been a little sick over the previous days and we thought that maybe she was coming down with the sickness that had hit the California Carters over Christmas break. After a few days we thought that she should probably go to the doctor's office because she kept feeling tired, crampy, and nauseous. Just to make sure it wasn't the fact that she was pregnant she took a pregnancy test. WHOA! That was a surprise. Isn't birth control supposed to be almost 100% effective?? Almost being the operative word in that sentence.

So we scheduled a doctor's appointment and began to accept the fact that God threw us a curve ball and, ready or not, we were going to be parents!

Over the past few weeks we have gone from "Holy Crap" moments to "This is going to be awesome!". I already bought some Chiefs gear for the child (boy or girl, I don't care... they are going to be a Chiefs fan!). This child already has a Chiefs jersey onesie, a Chiefs T-shirt, and before long its very own jersey. Daddy is getting excited... can you tell?

Courtney has had the roughest ride of it. She has gone from CRAZY cravings for things such as: cheese, cheese, cheese, crab legs, meat, Vejars and You-be's Pizza (restaurants back home), hamburgers, etc. But once she has those things she has aversions to them... literally thinking about them makes her want to puke. She has dealt with nausea, vomiting (rare but happens), and sore limbs. But she is toughing through all of these things and is getting really excited as well.

To end this post I will post the pictures that we have been taking. We want to chart the growth of Courtney so we have been taking pictures every Saturday. We took the first at 7 weeks, 1 day and the last was today at 10 weeks, 2 days. Check them out to see how she has progressed!
